This is unprecedented! The Nouabale Ndoki National Park (NNNP) has just completed, with the financial support of the German Cooperation (via FTNS), the construction of a school for the children of Bomassa. Initiated in 2020, the project’s objective was to provide a modern and comfortable building for the 120 schoolchildren of the village of Bomassa.
Promise made, promise kept!
Following the completion of the work, the finished building was received at an inaugural ceremony in the presence of the Congolese Ministers of Forest Economy, Her Excellency Rosalie Matondo and of Pre-school, Primary, Secondary and Literacy Education, His Excellency Jean Luc MOUTHOU. Several local authorities were also present at the ceremony.
Previously built in temporary materials and in a state of deterioration, the school of Bomassa (created in the 1990s) no longer had good conditions for the learning of the children of Bomassa! It was not uncommon to see children distracted by passers-by and noise or complaining about the heat during lessons.
“I am very happy to see how Bomassa is evolving. At the time, my friends and I attended school in the old Bomassa school building where we faced several difficulties. Firstly, some individuals would regularly access the rooms which did not have secure windows. Also, the toilets were not well maintained because of the lack of running water. We now have a very good school that will certainly contribute to the training of several future executives,”
Kevin Sangobo, a former student of the school and representative of the Bomassa School Parents Association.
Following this donation from the German Cooperation, the new and only primary school in Bomassa now has three classrooms with an administrative block and an external sanitary block on a surface area of 750 m2. In order to create a building in phase with the environment, a solar electrification system has been integrated to ensure lighting (natural light will be favoured through adequate openings). The school is also built in clay bricks and equipped with a rainwater collection system coupled with a borehole.
PNNN, with the financial support of the German cooperation via FTNS, plans to build an identical school in the village of Makao. A selection committee has already met to choose a company to carry out the work.
